SGA + GCR Food Drive

The weather is getting chillier and it’s finally time to dig out those oh-so-fashionable winter clothes you’ve managed to hide away in storage six months ago. Don’t worry, seasonal changes always means quality shopping time, especially as we approach the winter holidays. But before you succumb to the next two months of pie and cake and turkey induced belt-unbuckling, take a moment to reflect on all the things you are thankful for this fall. We always talk about taking a moment to stop and smell the roses, but how many of us have actually put nose to flower (bush? tree?) on a regular occasion?

Here’s your chance.

SGA, GCR, and BLSC are teaming up in an effort to help those who are struggling after last weeks storm. Sandy was mean. She left us battered and bruised but she has also brought out the best in us. We’ve had blood drives, volunteer efforts, and food cooking on the streets. But we know many students may not be able to get out as much or as far, so we’re bringing the volunteering a little closer to home.

Starting Wednesday, November 5th, boxes will be placed in three locations on campus to collect canned goods for the City Harvest Daily News Food Drive. This is the largest food drive in NYC and this year, it will be even more essential to gather supplies for those friends and families who were battered by Sandy. We will be collecting canned goods of all shapes and sizes and contacting City Harvest for pick up. They will only come get it if the boxes are over 100lbs. Even if each of us donates one can, we can easily surpass that amount.

So next time you go to the grocery store, be thankful for what you’re able to get (cakes, pies, and turkeys inclusive), and perhaps pick up a can of veggies for someone who isn’t as fortunate. Let’s start start smelling the roses and helping our community.

Staff Appreciation Day 2012

On Wednesday April 25, 2012, SGA and the Office of Student Affairs hosted a special Staff Appreciation Luncheon.  We were not only thrilled to thank all of the Mailman staff who work so hard to enhance our student experience, but we were especially happy to highlight and recognize three exceptional staff members for their dedication to the Mailman community: Robert Mullen, Tabaitha Rodriguez, and Liz Sung.  Chenxi Li and I (Rebecca Lo) were pleased to have the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with three remarkable individuals who help to make our student life experience here so amazing.  I encourage you all to take a moment and learn more about these wonderful people; you’ll love them even more!

On behalf of the Mailman Student Body, SGA would like to say, “Thank you for all you do for the Mailman community!”

Tonight’s the Night!

Get excited, get excited, GET EXCITED!!! Only a few hours left until SGA’s end of the year event and it will definitely be one to remember. We’ve sold almost 40 tickets in 40 minutes today (guess procrastination’s a more common trait than I thought 😉 ). We’ve got candy, appetizers, drinks, raffles, and a dj and fresh music, and so much more. Limited tickets will be available at the door so come early if you didn’t get yours during the week!

Party tonight, study tomorrow. See you soon!
